UK Nurses: Australian Working Holiday Visa explained

Dreaming of working in Australia for a year? Aged 18-30? Get yourself a Working Holiday Visa (WHV)!

WORKING HOLIDAY VISA 1ST YEAR

If you are at least 18 but not yet 31, you can apply for this visa which will grant you one year in Australia. It costs approximately £325. With this visa, any individual can work with a single employer for up to six months only! To be able to work as a nurse, you must also have your AHPRA registration! (See previous blog about AHPRA tips/ nurse pathway/ costs for more).

Nurses will also be required to have a medical before their visa is granted.

WORKING HOLIDAY VISA 2ND YEAR

To get a second year WHV, you must complete three months of regional/rural agricultural work within your first year WHV. Unfortunately rural nursing placements do not count so prepare to pick some bananas if you want to stay for a second year!

There are further visas available for a longer stay in Australia which include sponsorship visas or the skilled migration visas. See the Australian Goverment website for more details: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/
